Our Story
Zero Waste Houston, LLC is a family-owned, small, sustainability business that operates out of The Woodlands, Texas.
Leo Brito originally started as founder & owner of a traditional landscaping company. After seeing that the current industry standards for lawn maintenance are not efficient & are actually designed to require continuous maintenance due to poor soil health, he knew he needed to do things differently.

He became a Texas Master Naturalist, a Master Composter, & a TRUE Zero Waste Advisor, turning his business into a landscaping company that specializes in Texas native landscapes & holistic soil & land management practices.

Creating his own nutrient dense compost from food waste became increasingly important to his successful business model, and the lack of food waste pick-up services in the community became strikingly obvious. So, he began optimizing his company’s resources to start a pilot food waste pick-up service
in The Woodlands. ​

From there, Zero Waste Houston, LLC was born!
​Leo & his family are strong advocates for less waste & more efficient sustainable practices, so this expansion of their official mission came naturally. They have pledged to do their part in reducing the burden on landfills, reducing greenhouse gases, promoting soil regeneration, & bringing more general awareness of the ability of individual families to create less waste. Just doing their part to improve the environment for the next generation.

2016
Woodlands Escapes is launched.
A landscaping company specializing in soil regeneration, TX native plants, & overall customer satisfaction.
Generating success from making & utilizing our own compost to nourish the soil & vegetation while also reducing pests; all without the use of harmful, synthetic chemicals!
2017
'Zero Waste The Woodlands' is introduced as a service.
A pilot food waste/ compostable pick-up service for commercial businesses & residents was introduced to The Woodlands community.
2019
Zero Waste Houston is officially launched!
Affordable food waste pick-up services expanded to the Greater Houston Area community!
